LINC Philadelphia Update
Moving Forward…
An Important Message from LINC Philadelphia Co-Managers Melissa Franklin (Pew Fellowships in the Arts) and Beth Feldman Brandt (Stockton Rush Bartol Foundation)
Since its first planning meeting attended by 150 artists in July 2005, LINC Philadelphia has served a wide range of artists in a variety of ways. Our original intent was to bring attention to the contributions and needs of artists in our region and to seed some programs that would have the long-term potential to continue to support artists.
Funding for LINC Philadelphia has ended but its programs will be continued through its program partners. Use this page to link to updated information about activities for individual artists. This website will no longer be updated.
Health Care
What LINC Philadelphia did…
-
Brought the issue of health insurance for artists to the forefront by creating “An Artist’s Guide to Accessing Health Care in the Philadelphia Region” that put forth in plain English your options for health care and insurance based on a survey of over 600 artists and the best thinking of leaders in the health care field.
What happens next …
- The most current information on health care in Pennsylvania will continue to be available at the Artists’ Health Insurance Resource Center .
- We encourage you to continue to be vocal advocates for health care access for individuals. Sign up for notification of this and other important issues impacting artists at the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance Action Center and make the voices of artists heard.
Professional Development for Teaching Artists
What LINC Philadelphia did…
- Conducted 50 workshops and conferences attended by almost 1000 Teaching Artists who were able to share their experiences and develop their skills to support creative experiences for young people in our community while sustaining their lives as artists.
What happens next …
- The Stockton Rush Bartol Foundation will continue to convene workshops and other opportunities for Teaching Artists in the coming year.
Access to Resources
What LINC Philadelphia did …
- Collaborated with Pew Fellowships in the Arts to convert its “Artists Resource Guide” into an up-to-date, online searchable database that provides information on everything from artist spaces to intellectual property laws, from grants to web development.
What happens next…
- Pew Fellowships in the Arts will continue to update the online Artists Resource Guide .
Artists U
What LINC Philadelphia did …
- Supported the establishment of Artists U, the brainchild of founder Andrew Simonet, as an artist-run, long-term, local program providing for career/life planning piloted with performing artists
What happens next …
We hope you will continue to access these programs and resources in future and thank our partners for their work on behalf of artists.

About Us
LINC
Leveraging Investments in Creativity (LINC) is a national initiative to improve conditions for artists so they can better contribute to community life. With funding from the Ford Foundation, LINC is currently in ten cities across the country creating a network of information and support for artists.
Artist LINC Philadelphia
LINC Philadelphia began in 2005 through extensive conversations with hundreds of artists to determine their most pressing needs, and with community partners who could help LINC Philadelphia meet these needs. In September 2006, LINC Philadelphia kicked off a two-year strategy to help artists connect with information and each other.
LINC Philadelphia is co-managed by the Stockton Rush Bartol Foundation and Pew Fellowships in the Arts which doanted their time and resources to the project.
